CICA is proud to announce the launch of the newly updated edition of the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners.
This refreshed edition reflects the evolving nature of career development in Australia and responds to significant shifts in the labour market, education and training systems, digital technologies, and the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence in professional practice. It reinforces CICA’s ongoing commitment to quality, ethical, and evidence-informed career development services for all Australians.
The 2025 review process drew on international frameworks, contemporary research, and consultation with practitioners and member associations to ensure the Standards remain practical, relevant, and future-focused. As a living document, the Professional Standards continue to provide a clear benchmark for qualifications, competencies, and ethical practice, and underpin the Australian Register of Professional Career Development Practitioners.
The updated Standards strengthen alignment with global developments in professionalisation while remaining grounded in the Australian context. They reaffirm the core competencies required of practitioners, including career development theory, labour market information, ethical practice, diversity and inclusion, communication, technology, and professional practice application, alongside an increased emphasis on digital capability and responsible AI use.
